A Vision to Revive Russia's Winter Sports Heritage.
The 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics emerged from an ambitious vision: to rekindle Russia's deep connection with winter sports among a new generation. Breaking from tradition, these games aimed to be truly inclusive, ensuring every Russian citizen could experience this historic moment.
I joined an elite international creative team—eight designers from Europe, Asia Pacific, and North America—working directly from the Russian Olympic Federation's headquarters to shape the games' visual identity.
Our most daring creative decision was to eschew a traditional logo in favor of a clean, modern wordmark—a choice not made since the 1968 Mexico Olympics. This wordmark served a dual purpose, functioning as both the games' identity and its digital gateway. By incorporating the URL into the design, we created the first Olympic brand that directly connected citizens to the digital experience of the games.
This groundbreaking approach was the result of close collaboration within our multinational team in Moscow, reflecting both innovation and respect for Olympic heritage.
