FIA Zero

To gain traction in the fight against road deaths, the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) wanted to develop their own version of Wolff Olins highly recognised project (RED). The response was to harness and use something the FIA already own — the yellow safety flag. The flag is already an icon of respect at all FIA races worldwide, if it could be taken from the race course and into the real world it could be a sign for everyone on the road, not just a Forumla 1 driver.

The result is an open source brand identity as this is a brand shouldn't be owned by the FIA but be able to be adopted by everyone. To ensure momentum and ease of use the brand needed to be reduced to it's simplest expression while retaining maximum impact. Therefore the only assets are the flag device, the name ZERO and the colour black.

Made at Wolff Olins.
